WorkSafe Approved HSR Refresher Gendered Violence

WorkSafe approved HSR refresher Gendered Violence course provides an opportunity for HSRs and Deputy HSRs to revisit aspects of the HSR Initial OHS Training Course and refresh their knowledge of OHS in the workplace.

Under the OHS Act 2004 (section 67), all elected HSRs and deputy HSRs, after completing an initial course of training, have an entitlement for each year they hold office to attend a WorkSafe-approved HSR refresher OHS training course.

An employer, if requested, must allow the HSR/Deputy HSR to attend on paid time, pay the cost of the course and any other associated costs. Section 67 also allows HSRs to choose the course, in consultation with their employer.

This WorkSafe-approved training course will help HSRs and Deputy HSRs to understand and exercise their powers effectively. The training will provide HSRs and DHSRs with the confidence, skills and knowledge to represent their co-workers when raising health and safety concerns in relation to work-related gendered violence and to understand the health and safety issues arising from incidents of work-related gendered violence.

HSR WHS Initial Online (NSW)

Health and Safety Representative Initial WHS Training Course (5 Days)

Participant profile: Suitable for individuals or groups. Each participant must have their own computer or laptop.

Duration: 5 days, 7 hours participation time per day, 1 hour total break time.

Course Outline

This course is designed to develop the skills and knowledge an HSR needs to represent their workgroup. It provides HSRs with information on their role, and entitlements and protections, and information on WHS legislation needed to promote a safe work culture in their workplace.

Under the WHS Act (2011), HSRs are entitled to attend an initial training course.

The Act requires employers to cover the cost of the course and allow HSRs paid time off to attend.

If WHS training has not been undertaken in over 2 years, this course may be a good opportunity to update your WHS skills. (note: HSRs have only one entitlement for initial training however the absence of an entitlement does not prevent an employer who recognises the benefits of HSRs receiving training from allowing them to attend additional courses).

After completing the HSR Initial course, HSRs and deputy HSRs can do a one-day refresher once every year.

Employers under the WHS Act must allow a representative to attend an approved course on paid time, pay the cost of the course and must pay any other associated costs.

The role of the Health and Safety Representative (HSR) is primarily to liaise with other staff to identify health and safety issues and convey these to management. HSRs are elected by fellow staff to represent the views of the staff group.

Dangerous Goods Management

This Dangerous goods management course provides participants with an understanding on how dangerous goods should be stored and handled. The course explains the physical properties and effects of dangerous goods and hazard communication requirements. 

This Dangerous goods management course is designed for anyone who requires a general understanding of storage and handling hazardous chemicals/dangerous goods as required under the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Regulations.  No previous knowledge or experience with Hazardous chemicals/dangerous goods is required to be able to complete the course.

Delivery 

  • Virtual Classroom – The virtual classroom course is popular with people that want flexible learning in real time with a teacher. virtual classroom can be undertaken on most platforms unique to your business or we can facilitate sessions through our online learning portal.
  • Self-paced learning – Self paced learning provides the user with access to Systec’s online learning portal where they can complete work at their own pace in their own learning environment

Traffic Management Online Refresher

The traffic management refresher course provides the required skills and knowledge to interpret and implement traffic management plans to ensure the safety of construction and maintenance workers, and the general public.

Please note that Vic Roads requires all field staff with responsibility for setting out, implementing and/or monitoring a Traffic Guidance Scheme, as required by a traffic management plan, to have completed the RIIWHS302D Implement Traffic Management Plan unit of competency and to complete a refresher course every three (3) years.

It is highly recommended that course participants also complete RIIWHS205D Control Traffic with Stop-Slow Bat to obtain work in the Traffic Control industry.

Entry Requirements

It is advisable that course participants have at least a basic level of literacy, numeracy and communication skills as well as a reasonable level of fitness and a desire to work outdoors.

Structure

This course consists of one (1) unit of competency.

Assessment is against the National Standard, which applies in all states and territories. SysTec RTO’s assessors are fully licensed and accredited.

SysTec RTO will issue a Statement of Attainment on the successful completion of this unit of competency.

Control Traffic Refresher Online

Course Content 

RIIWHS205D Control traffic with Stop Slow Bat is a nationally accredited VET course and persons who have completed this course should conduct refresher training every 3 years to keep their knowledge current.

Vic Roads requires all field staff with identified roles and responsibilities for being a traffic controller to have completed the RIIWHS205D Control Traffic with Stop Slow Bat.

This course provides participants with the relevant knowledge to direct and control traffic with a stop slow bat in accordance with relevant Work Health and Safety Regulations and Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.

Topics include:
• The roles and responsibilities of site traffic management
• Legislation relevant to the management of traffic
• Positioning of signage and barriers in traffic management scenarios
• Directing and controlling pedestrian and vehicular traffic on worksites and public roads
• Communication in the workplace using hand signals to drivers and pedestrians
• Communication using hand-held communication devices
• Removing or covering signs after completion of work

Vic Roads requires all field staff with identified roles and responsibilities for being a traffic controller to have completed the RIIWHS205D Control Traffic with Stop Slow Bat. Vic Roads also requires that a refresher course be completed every three (3) years.

Entry Requirements

Participants must have at least a basic level of literacy, numeracy and communication skills.

For control traffic refresher training you must have the nationally accredited unit RIIWHS205D Control traffic with Stop Slow Bat.

Delivery

The choices of delivery consist of two options:

  • Class delivery time is approximately 6 hours of face to face class time in the virtual classroom.
  • The online option can be completed in a self paced environment using our e-learning platform.

Learning Outcomes

For participants undertaking the refresher course for RIIWHS205D Control traffic with Stop Slow Bat you will receive an updated wallet card.

For participants undertaking awareness training you will receive a certificate of attendance.
