SysTec is approved by WorkSafe Victoria to deliver the Health & Safety Representatives’ Initial OHS
Training Course.
This aim of WorkSafe-approved training courses is to provide HSRs and Deputy HSRs with
the knowledge, skills and confidence to enable them to exercise their powers for the purpose of
representing members of their designated workgroup and to help make their workplaces safer.
This course is designed to be practical and informative, providing each participant with a working
knowledge of the legislation as well as the tools and techniques for controlling workplace hazards
and risks.
This course, with the latest information in the area of OHS, introduces legislation and workshops
strategies to deal with onsite OHS issues.
The learning objectives of this course are:
- Interpreting the OHS legislative framework and its relationship to the HSR
- Identifying key parties and their legislative obligations and duties
- Establishing representation in the workplace
- Participating in consultation and issue resolution
- Represent DWG members in any OHS risk management process undertaken by the appropriate
duty holder - Issuing a Provisional Improvement Notice (PIN) and directing the cessation of work
Who Should Attend
This course is developed for HSRs and Deputy HSRs however it is useful for Safety
Committee Members, Management and Employees involved with Safety Management.
NOTE: Under Section 67 of the Victorian OHS Act, the employer must allow a HSR to attend a WorkSafe approved HSR
Initial OHS Training course on paid time, pay the cost of the course and must pay any other associated costs. This section
also allows HSRs to choose the approved training course they attend in consultation with their employer.

This WorkSafe-approved refresher course focuses on work-related violence, helping Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) better identify, prevent, and respond to physical and psychological threats in the workplace.
Participants will build on their knowledge of their functions and powers under the OHS Act, strengthen their understanding of duties relating to workplace violence, and develop practical strategies for consultation, risk assessment, and issue resolution.
