RIIWHS202D Enter and Work in Confined Spaces

This confined space course is a nationally accredited VET course. For participants with no industry experience nominal hours are 30. Prior to the commencement of the course participants will be issued with pre reading. Actual delivery time is broken into approximately 7.5 hours of face to face class time with additional hours allocated to personal study time and the completion of written assignments.

This course provides participants with the relevant knowledge and skills required to enter and work in confined spaces in accordance with relevant work health and safety act (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS). The unit of competency is also is appropriate for those performing sentry or stand by person roles, at worksites within construction; coal mining; drilling; extractive industries; metalliferous mining, facilities and general construction.

Entry Requirements

There are no prerequisite skills or education required to undertake the unit, however, it is advisable participants have a basic level of literacy, numeracy and communication skills

Delivery

Enter and Work in Confined Spaces utilises various learning techniques to ensure all participants learning styles are catered for. Visual presentations, class discussion, case studies, open questions and demonstration are used to prepare participants wishing to inspect or carry out work within confided worksites.

Assessment

The competency of attendees is confirmed with two written assessments and practical activities, both of which must be successfully completed. A Statement of Attainment (and wallet card) can only be issued after the trainer has marked both assessments and observed participants demonstrating tasks correctly
