The BSB51319 Diploma of Work, Health and Safety is a nationally recognised, competency based qualification. The course consists of ten (10) units of competency from the Business Services Training Package (BSB).

The BSB51319 Diploma of Work, Health and Safety is a course suitable for those people who coordinate and maintain the work health and safety (WHS) program in an organisation. It reflects the role of practitioners who apply a substantial knowledge base and well developed skills in a wide variety of WHS contexts. They may provide leadership and guidance to others. The qualification reflects the role of workers who apply a broad knowledge base and well developed skills in a wide variety of contexts.

This qualification combines best practice theory with practical examples of work application. Course participants will gain an understanding of the specialist skills and knowledge required to become an effective Safety Officer. Prerequisites/Entry Requirements

All core units in BSB41415 Certificate IV in Work, Health and Safety (WHS) or equivalent competencies are required as entry:

  • BSBWHS402 Assist with compliance with WHS laws
  • BSBWHS403 Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS consultation and participation processes
  • BSBWHS404 Contribute to WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control
  • BSBWHS405 Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS management systems
  • BSBWHS406 Assist with responding to incidents

Pathways into Qualification

Preferred pathways for candidates considering this qualification include the BSB41415 Certificate IV in Work, Health and Safety or other relevant qualifications OR vocational experience in a range of work environments in senior support roles. Please note that this qualification or specific units of competency may satisfy some requirements for WHS skilled and practising advisors. Persons seeking certification should check the requirements with the certifying bodies.

Structure

Participants are given 12 months to complete and submit the assessment activities. It is assumed that you will spend approximately 418 hrs in combined research, study and assessment.

The BSB51319 Diploma of Work, Health and Safety involves the successful completion of ten (10) of the following units of competency including five core units and four elective units.

Duration

Twelve (12) months is allocated for completion of this qualification.

Assessment for the BSB51319 Diploma of Work Health and Safety is against the competency standards within the Business Services Training Package (BSB). Most course participants can expect to spend between five and ten hours per week, at a minimum, outside of course delivery time, reading and completing their assessment tasks.
