TC1 & TMI1 Skill Sets

Temporary Traffic Control Course This unit of competency provides the skills and knowledge required to control traffic using a stop/slow bat to ensure the safety of construction and maintenance workers, and the general public. Vic Roads requires all field staff with responsibility for being a Traffic Controller / Traffic implementer to have completed the TC1 and TMI1 Skill Sets.

Entry Requirements

It is advisable that course participants undertaking the temporary traffic control Course have at least a basic level of literacy, numeracy and communication skills as well as a reasonable level of fitness and a desire to work outdoors.
  • Hold a current construction induction certificate (White Card)
  • Be over 18 years of age.

Structure

This course consists of 2 Skill sets:

Delivery

  • 2 Days of Trainer led classroom Theory with assessments.
  • 1 Day Practical in a controlled environment

Learning Outcomes

  • The course will prepare you in OHS roles and responsibilities Site traffic management plans Hazard and risk management Principles of traffic controlling Working with road users
  • A refresher course is also available, it is recommended you complete this every three (3) years.

Assessment

Mandatory for Road workers
  • Learners are required to complete 20 hours of supervised practical “on the job” training within 6 months of the course completion.
  • Details must be recorded in a supplied log book
  • On completion of the” on the job” training component and submission of the logbook your Assessor will attend your live worksite and verify your competence before issuing a final certificate
  • You can then register as a Nationally Accredited Practitioner able to Control Traffic and Implement Traffic Management Plans on Category 1 Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads’

*Please note with all courses undertaken verification of competency is required to complete your TC1 & TC2 Courses. Verification of the practical component requires you to have 20 hours of logbook experience before a trainer and assessor can visit your workplace and verify your competency for the practical component.
