The BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety is a nationally recognised, competency based qualification. The course consists of ten (10) units of competency from the Business Services Training Package (BSB).

The BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety is a course suitable for those people working in a work health and safety role that may or may not work under supervision. They may provide leadership and guidance to others and have some limited responsibility for the output of others. The qualification reflects the role of workers who apply a broad knowledge base and well developed skills in a wide variety of contexts.

This qualification combines best practice theory with practical examples of work application. Course participants will gain an understanding of the specialist skills and knowledge required to become an effective Safety Officer. Student Profile

The BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety is designed for people who are working across a broad range of industry sectors in roles as safety officers, site safety managers and safety inspectors.

Prerequisites/Entry Requirements

There are no prerequisites or entry requirements for this course.

Pathways into the Qualification

Preferred pathways for candidates considering this qualification include the BSB30719 Certificate III in Work Health and Safety or other relevant qualifications OR vocational experience in a range of work environments in senior support roles.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this programme, course participants will be able to: Assist with compliance with WHS laws Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS consultation and participation process Contribute to WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS management systems Assist with responding to incidents

Structure

Participants are given 12 months to complete and submit all the assessment activities.

Where participants in the certificate program do not currently have a role that involves active supervision or involvement in WHS/ OHS related duties or related experience it is suggested that approximately 418 hours study be considered as a bench mark for successful completion of this Qualification.

The BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety involves the successful completion of ten (10) of the following units of competency including five core units and five elective units.

Core Units

  • BSBWHS412 Assist with workplace compliance with WHS laws
  • BSBWHS413 Contribute to implementation and maintenance of WHS consultation and participation processes
  • BSBWHS414 Contribute to WHS risk management
  • BSBWHS415 Contribute to implementing WHS management systems
  • BSBWHS416 Contribute to workplace incident response

Unit from Diploma of WHS as elective

Students can select one of the other units we offer from the Diploma of WHS as elective provided:

  • It is relevant to the qualification,
  • The student has completed another current qualification at Certificate IV level that may qualify for credit transfer for up to 2 units if they are relevant,
  • The Student has completed another current qualification at the Certificate III or Diploma level, they may qualify for credit transfer for 1 relevant unit towards the Cert IV WHS

    Duration

    Twelve (12) months is allocated for completion of this qualification.

    Course participants are required to undertake a number of assessment activities, including but not limited to:

    • Completion of a portfolio of evidence
    • Reports
    • Assignments
    • Third party assessment
    • Demonstration

    Assessment for the BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety is against the competency standards within the Business Services Training Package (BSB). Most course participants can expect to spend between five and ten hours per week, at a minimum, outside of course delivery time, reading and completing their assessment tasks.
