Provide First Aid + CPR

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid + CPR provides course participants with the knowledge and skill to confidently recognise; respond effectively and safely to a first aid incident. Course participants will gain confidence in providing a first aid response; life support; management of casualty’s unit qualified emergency support arrives.

This unit of competency is the advised minimum requirement for the Workplace First Aider (WHS legislation)

HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation is included in this course

Options for attending. 

Option 1 – Face to Face Learning

Participants are provided with the Learner manual upon enrolment or 7 days prior to the training commencement. It is expected the reading of the manual will take approximately 2-3 hours.

The assessor will demonstrate practical First Aid techniques and observe participants performing practical first aid tasks and techniques.

Option 2 – Blended Course ( Online and Practical )

This course can be run by attending trainer led online learning and face-to-face training before attending the face-to-face training.

Students will need to complete their e-Learning which can be done in one sitting or over multiple sessions. Students should allow up to 7 hours for reading and e-Learning.

Face-to-face practical assessment takes 3 hours in a classroom environment.

Entry requirements

Minimum age for course participants is 14 years. ( if under 18 a consent form needs to be obtained  It is a requirement of this course that you are physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least four (4) minutes on a CPR manikin placed on the floor.

Structure

This course consists of one (2) units of competency:

HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Delivery

This course involves pre reading course material and a one day class with our experienced trainer. It will include presentations, group work and practical activities.

Outcomes

The course will prepare you in the management of:

  • The unconscious casualty
  • The non-breathing casualty (including Provide CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator on adults and children)
  • A casualty with breathing difficulties
  • Casualty Assessment First aid team work and multiple casualties, triage
  • Emergency Action Plans

The ‘Workplace Fist Aider’ certificate is valid for three (3) years as per industry standard. The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends that the ‘Provide CPR’ component is refreshed every twelve (12) months.

This accreditation is a great addition to the resume and makes you a valuable addition to any workplace.

Assessment

Assessment is against the National Standard, which applies in all states and territories. Our assessors are fully licensed and accredited.

We will issue a Statement of Attainment on the successful completion of this unit of competency. The Statement of Attainment is recognised throughout Australia and is on the ACECQA list of approved first aid courses.

PUAWER005 Operate as part of an Emergency Control Organisation 

Our fire warden training is a nationally accredited VET course. For participants with no industry experience nominal hours are 7.

This course provides participants with the relevant knowledge and skills required to perform the role of workplace fire warden in accordance with relevant work health safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations.

Topics include:

  • Evacuation and assembly principles and procedures
  • Fire, bomb threat, and other emergencies and their effects on the workplace
  • Identifying the workplace fireboard and fire equipment location(s)
  • Workplace evacuation procedures
  • Efficient evacuations

Operate as Part of an Emergency Control Organisation utilises various learning techniques to ensure all participants learning styles are catered for. Visual presentations, class discussion, demonstration and open questions to prepare participants to work safely at heights.

The competency of attendees is confirmed with two written assessments, both of which must successfully completed.

A Statement of Attainment can only be issued after the trainer has marked both assessments as correct and complete.

Entry requirements

Course participants need to be over eighteen (18) years of age and are expected to have basic literacy and numeracy skills.

Delivery time is broken up into approximately 4 hours of face to face class time with additional hours allocated to personal study and completion of assessments.
