Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that involves the assessment of an individual’s relevant prior learning, including formal, informal and non-formal learning, to determine an application for credit. The means of assessment will vary according to the nature of the skills/competencies involved but in general will comprise one or more of the following:

  • Interview,
  • References/testimonies relating to the skills/competencies,
  • Demonstration of skills and knowledge,
  • Folio of relevant work documents,
  • Formal testing, if required.

In applying for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) your assessor will be looking for a range of evidence that meets the following rules of evidence:

Authenticity

That you are the person who performed the tasks which are being submitted for assessment. You will be asked to verify this.

Currency

The evidence is current in relation to your competency. Can you still perform the task/activity to the appropriate standard?

Validity

Your evidence must cover the knowledge and skills as specified in the performance criteria and evidence guide.

Sufficiency

You must collect enough evidence to satisfy the assessor.

Applicants must be enrolled in the units of competency for which they are seeking Recognition of Prior Learning. SysTec RTO will contact the course participant to make a convenient time to undergo the assessment process. Upon being assessed as competent, credit for these units of competency will be awarded.

Credit Transfer/ Mutual Recognition

Credit transfer is the recognition by credit of a unit of competency or module previously completed, including applications for Mutual Recognition. Mutual Recognition is when an individual has undertaken recent formal training through another nationally recognised RTO (Registered Training Organisation) that meets the requirements of a Training Package that SysTec RTO is authorised to issue.
